Middle East map viewer and geographic feature finder for Arabic and non-Arabic speakers.

Based on a tip, an intelligence analyst seeks a place that sounds like ‘sama’ or ‘samwa.’” Typing “sama” into the Basis Technology GeoScope® returns four possible matches and their locations on a map of Iraq. One of the four is in an area of interest. A few more clicks centers the map on the town and brings up additional area information.

GeoScope is a high-performance, interactive utility designed to support the work of geospatial intelligence in the Arabic-speaking regions of the Middle East.

In addition to features present in conventional map viewers, GeoScope’s patent-pending phonic search technology locates cities, towns and geographic features from names entered in Arabic script or in “approximate English.”

GeoScope comes with a sample collection of high-resolution maps in which geographic features are captioned in Arabic script. Its database (gazetteer) of major geographic features in Iraq renders names authoritatively in Arabic script.
